Meet Our Trainers

Derrick Smith MS, MAT, CSCS

Derrick has been training for over a decade now and has been primarily focused on young athletes and sports performance. A former NCAA football player and multi-sport high-school standout, Derrick knows how to relate to young athletes as they develop in their athletic endeavors. A member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Derrick is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, holds a Master’s of Science in Human Movement, and a Master of Arts in Teaching. He is also currently pursuing his PhD.


Derrick has been a basketball coach in the public school system and on the competitive circuit for almost 10 years. Derrick’s training and educational background gives him the perfect skill set for developing his clientele both physically and mentally.


Jared began his path to sports training at Excelsior Springs High School where he was a multi-sport All-State athlete. It was then that he realized that he wanted to someday help young athletes enjoy some of the success that he had experienced over the years. Jared went on to compete collegiately in 3 sports and afterwards played

Arena Football. At the conclusion of his football career he decided to focus on others' physical fitness goals. Jared holds 3 certifications through the American Council on Exercise (Certified Medical Exercise Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer and Youth Fitness Specialist) and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. He is currently working on his Doctorate in Sport and Performance Psychology and is a Physical Education/Health teacher in the Liberty School District. His passion for sports performance can be seen by the countless hours he spends training and coaching. He has spent several years coaching sports such as volleyball, basketball, and track.


Greg Carbin BS, CSCS, USAW
NFL Strength Coach

Currently an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, Greg Carbin helped found Flash Performance in 2010. He works with athletes in every sport but has an incredible ability to help athletes develop their strength and speed.

After a great football and track career at Jefferson City High School Greg went on to star at Missouri Western. He attended several professional tryouts after college and was eventually signed by AFL’s Kansas City Brigade thanks to an impressive 4.34 40 yd time. Greg then decided to take his knowledge to North Kansas City High School where he was an assistant varsity football and track coach.


Coaching in high school gave him the opportunity to combine two of his passions, football and training our youth. Greg has been focused on sports specific training for several years now and he has helped mold a multitude of young athletes. He served as the first ever Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Missouri Western State University for 5 years, designing and administering workouts to all 10 of their athletic programs. He has quickly become one of the brightest young minds in the sports performance industry. Greg's wife Marian is the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Mo West.

Dontae Watkins BS

A former All-Conference, All-District, and All-State defensive back at Blue Springs High School, Dontae played at Missouri Western where he was a 2x All-MIAA defensive back. In 2018 Dontae spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs. 

Dontae is great with our athletes at Flash Performance as he knows just what to do with them to help them reach the next level. 

Sergeant Eric Tucker

Originally from Richmond Virginia. Eric is a former United States Marine and served as a sergeant in the infantry. Being deployed around the world he got to see and train with many people in different countries. As an infantry team leader, he was in charge of preparing Marines for combat by getting them in to the best shape possible. Eric accomplished this while not always having access to a gym by developing creative workouts that used bodyweight, sea bags, and even other people.

While in the service he was also a High Intensity Tactical Training instructor. Eric says this certification opened his eyes to the knowledge of what tactical training really is. He also learned how to incorporate it into his everyday life. He takes pride in not only showing people different ways of working out but also in the technique it takes to prevent injury.


After completing his duty of service, he took the certified personal trainer course offered through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He intends to pursue a degree with the end goal of being a strength and conditioning coach.
